Invasion Games
Tag Rugby
In Year 5, the children have been learning the discipline Invasion, with the focus on Tag Rugby. In their lessons, the children have learnt the skills required to play Tag Rugby. During these lessons, children learnt to use defensive positions to mark and tag an attacker. The children learnt to defend as part of a team to deny space to the attacking team. They learnt the new skill of using a pop pass over short distances to create an explosive run. Another new skill they learnt in Year 5 was the ‘magic diamond’ formation. They implemented this into games to be able to move the ball around quickly. In this unit, children were exposed to specific vocabulary such as: contest, pressure, support, pop pass, turn over, lose pass and formation.
Here are some images to show the skills the children have been learning in their lessons.
