Weekly Focused Assemblies
Week Beginning 05/06/23
This week’s assembly was based on one of our school values – we value being an individual.
In our assembly, we spoke about how important it is to celebrate diversity and how we should respect people regardless of age, gender, race, religion, perspectives and beliefs. We explored the idea that our world is an interesting place because we are all unique and different.
We shared a book together called ‘Dogs Don’t Do Ballet’ by Anna Kemp which explores the idea that we don’t need to try and fit in by not truly being who we are. In the story, Biff the dog does not do normal things that dogs usually do – like fetching balls, chasing sticks or drinking from toilets! No, this dog dreams of being a ballerina! At the end of the story, he achieves his dreams! We discussed how it is important to challenge stereotypes and to celebrate individuals and their differences.
We also listened to the song ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman to emphasise the message of celebrating and accepting everybody.
