Weekly Focused Assemblies 2023-2024
In Our assembly this week, we talked about World Poetry Day.
We talked about why celebrating poetry is so important. We decided that poetry should be celebrated because:
- Anyone can write a poem
- It allows us to experiment with words, rhythm and rhyme
- They allow us to express ourselves and our feelings
- They can be very entertaining
We then shared and enjoyed the following poem:
We then read and enjoyed the following book which is an actual poem.
We then listened to some of our own Rednal Hill poets from year 3, 4, 5 & 6. These children had all written their own poems inspired by poets that they had been exploring during poetry week. The poets are:
Year 3 – Michael Rosen
Year 4 – Valerie Bloom
Year 5 – Kate Wakeling
Year 6 – Benjamin Zephaniah
A poetry competition was then launched for anyone inspired to write a poem!
At the start and end of our assembly we listened to Vivaldi – Four Seasons. Take a listen here:
