In this week’s assembly, we spoke about International Literacy day. We discussed the question – what is International Literacy Day?
- Since 1967, International Literacy Day celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind people of the importance of literacy as a human right.

- Unfortunately, in some countries around the world some children and adults still cannot read and understand a simple text.
We spoke about how important it is to learn to read and write and how words give us power which allows us to succeed in life.
We then read a story all about a child that loved words! The book is called ‘The Word Collector’ by Peter Reynolds.
